The versatile, three-times capped forward has played 68 times for his home region, but will move to Rodney Parade as the Gwent side’s latest signing.
The 26-year-old Lewis-Hughes joins Tongan back rower Solomone Funaki, Aussie centre Harry Wilson and former Scarlets lock Steve Cummins in joining Dai Flanagan’s squad for the 2024-25 campaign
“Shane is a really physical player, and he gives us a big option at blindside and can also play lock. He’s a very driven and ambitious player who wants to be the very best at everything he does,” said Flanagan.
“He is extremely competitive and will therefore drive standards in the squad and push others around him to produce their very best form.”
Born in Pontypridd, and a product of Coleg Y Cymoedd, Lewis-Hughes won his three caps under Wayne Pivac in 2020. He has played eight times for Cardiff this season, his last outing on 22 March against Glasgow Warriors being his 50th in the BKT United Rugby Championship.
“It has been a really tough few years with injuries, which has stopped me reaching the levels I know I am capable of,” said Lewis-Hughes.
“Dragons have put faith in me to add value to the club and I can’t wait to get started. My desire is to be the best rugby player I can possible be and there is so much potential at my new club.
“I know there is a huge amount of talent in the back row at Dragons, so I wan’t to challenge myself in that environment.”
