All four sides find themselves biding for glory in the same competition for the first-time next season, with the final being played at Principality Stadium on Friday, 23 May.
The Dragons are drawn in Pool 2 with the Ospreys, Cardiff Rugby in Pool 1 and Scarlets in Pool 3. Each team will play four pool matches before entering the play-off rounds.
The four best teams in each pool will progress to the Round of 16, where they will be joined by the fifth-placed club in each of the four Investec Champions Cup pools.
EPCR CHALLENGE CUP POOLS
Pool 1: Cardiff, Cheetahs, Connacht, Lyon, Perpignan, Zebre Parma
Pool 2: Dragons, Lions, Montpellier, Newcastle Falcons, Ospreys, Pau
Pool 3: Bayonne, Black Lion, Edinburgh, Gloucester, Scarlets, RC Vannes
Cardiff and the Scarlets are both away in France in Round 1 on Saturday, 7 December, at Bayonne and Lyon, while the Ospreys open their account at the Swandea.Com Stadium the following day when they host fellow BKT United Rugby Championship side the Lions.
Montpellier will face Welsh opposition for the second time in successive weekends when they host the Ospreys in Round 2. Toby Booth’s side picked up a famous win at the GGL Stadium in the Investec Champions Cup two years ago when they beat the then French champions 21-10.
That game is on Saturday, 14 December at 1.00pm, while Cardiff welcome the Cheetahs for an 8.00pm kick-off at the Arms Park on the same day.
Sunday, 15 December sees the Scarlets given the chance to avenge their home defeat by Georgian guests Black Lion last season with another clash at Parc Y Scarlets, while the Dragons head to the north-east to meet Newcastle Falcons.
The Scarlets head to Kingsholm for a classic Anglo-Welsh derby against Gloucester in Round 3, while the Ospreys will have home advantage over another English Premiership side, Newcastle Falcons. Cardiff head to France once again to meet Perpignan, while the Dragons host Pau.
Round 4 sees an all-URC clash at the Arms Park between Cardiff and Connacht, the Ospreys head to Pau and the Dragons travel to South Africa to face the Lions. Scarlets end their pool at home against newly promoted RC Vannes.
