After squeezing out back-to-back wins over Wales and then overcoming Georgia, the Wallabies left Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Saturday after being beaten 33-7.
There were three first half tries for the Boks from Siya Kolisi, Pieter-Steph du Toit and a 16th in 19 Tests for Kurt-Lee Arendse. Arendse then added a 17th after the break along with one for replacement loose forward Kwagga Smith.
Both sides will be heading ‘north’ after the Rugby Championship to face Warren Gatland’s Welsh side at Principality Stadium as part of the Autumn Nations Series. Those games – v Australia on Sunday 17 November and v South Africa on Saturday 23 November – give fans a chance to watch Wales at home in rematches against both countries, after away fixtures against the Springboks at Twickenham Stadium and the Wallabies down under this summer.
Erasmus gave the Stormers 22-year-old Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu his first start in the No 10 jersey and he responded to the responsibility by putting in a very solid performance that included four conversions.
“It felt amazing and I’m really happy that the guys could pull it together. There was a lot of talk around the curse of Suncorp, so to come here and have a good training week and execute things well on the day was great,” said Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who spent a time playing rugby at Llandovery College.
“I’m glad we achieved that, but it’s now behind us, and we have to go again next week. To have double Rugby World Cup-winning champions around me helps because they bring a sense of comfort and security.
“I feel so at home here and it allows me to be myself on the field. It’s my crown year, so I definitely believe crown years are special.
“It’s really been an awesome year. To rub shoulders with my heroes and make the step-up to where they are now my teammates is a dream come true, and hopefully this is just a building block for the future.”
