The Welsh side sit third in the table behind Irish sides, Wolfhounds and Clovers, with only four points between the top three sides in the league and two rounds to play.

The Lightning are the only side in the competition with a fighting chance of ending the Irish dominance of the new cross-border competition between sides from Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Gwalia have won six of their eight games in the competition and are a side full of exciting and young Welsh talent.

Welsh international Bryonie King will captain the side from Number 8 in a side that sees three changes to the starting line-up that recorded a 31-19 victory on the road against Glasgow Warriors.

Flanker Lily Terry joins King in the backrow, with Welsh international Gwennan Hopkins ruled out with a calf strain, alongside Catrin Stewart.

Prop Cana Williams starts with Welsh international Maisie Davies and Molly Wakely in the front row, while Paige Jones and Wales lock Alaw Pyrs are in the Lightning engine room.

Courtney Greenway is the only change in the back line and is named on the wing with Wales pair Jenny Hesketh and Caitlin Lewis also in the back three.

The exciting centre partnership of Kelsie Webster and Molly Anderson-Thomas are paired together again, with Welsh international scrum half Sian Jones and fly half Carys Hughes at half back.

Catrina Nicholas-McLaughlin, Head coach of Gwalia Lightning, said: “As Gwalia Lightning we have proved we can compete in the Celtic Challenge. The players, coaches and staff have all bought into our identity and to be third in the table is testament to that.

“We are under no illusions of the task ahead of us against Wolfhounds, a side full of Irish internationals, but we are at home and shown we can be competitive at this level.

“With two games to go in the Celtic Challenge, it’s about us and what we want to achieve, and we should take confidence from the way we have played so far in the competition with only four points between the top three sides.”
