Ruddock offered a blunt assessment of his team’s performance, simply stating to assembled media after the match: “New Zealand were far superior on the day. They won the Test match very well, they won it easily in the end, but how we progress from here is the key,” said Ruddock.
“You will get no excuses from this camp. We were not good enough on the day. We didn’t deliver the performance we wanted.
Fly-half Dan Carter scored 26 points in another immense performance as the All Blacks ran in five tries.
And wing Rico Gear scored a 20-minute hat-trick and Carter finished with 26 points from two tries and a faultless goal-kicking display.
Wales were missing six of their Grand Slam-winning side – Lions Gethin Jenkins, Ryan Jones, Dwayne Peel, Gavin Henson and Tom Shanklin are injured while Martyn Williams attended his mother’s funeral on Friday. Losing such a quantity of high quality players meant the glories of the Six Nations were unlikely to be recreated against the World’s number one rated team.
“The All Blacks are a great team and if you don’t deliver you are going to get burned, you are going to get hurt,” said Ruddock
“I am very disappointed at the margin. Once you let New Zealand get the first one in and you are not accurate with your catch-up rugby they will come back and punish you again.,
“New Zealand won the collisions in the contact area and that put them on the front foot. Carter is a very fine footballer and he keeps getting better and better.
“He put us into the corner when he needed to, got the backline going when he needed to, took ball up when he needed to. He is a great player.
 Ruddock has urged Wales to put this performance behind them and concentrate on the remaining Invesco Perpetual Series matches.
“The test for us is to see how we come back from this with the games and challenges ahead. It hurts like hell but we have to refocus on the next game.”
