SIX NATIONS SQUAD ANNOUNCED

Five players move up from the Development squad after excellent performances against Clifton/Worcester.  Vikki Gaylard, Rhian Bowden and Sarah Simkin come up in the forwards, with Abby King and Karen Mayze stepping up in the backs.  Alongside the additions, Jenny Davies, Becky Davies and Claire Donovan’s positions in the senior squad have been formalised, following their call-ups from Development midway through the autumn.

Wales look forward to kicking-off their campaign away to England on 4th February, before hosting Scotland on the 10th February and visiting Ireland on 25th February.  They round up the competition with two home games against Spain (10th March) and France (17th March).

With the Development squad also facing a busy schedule, a number of changes have been made.   Hayley Baxter returns from injury, with Rhiannon Evans graduating from the Students’ squad.  Hayley Kemp and Laura Prosser also come into the side in the scrum half positions.

Their first test of the year will be home to England Students on 4th February, with an away fixture against Holland a week later.  On their return, their next opponents will be the British Army (24th February), with a fixture on the weekend of the 18th March (opposition to be confirmed) rounding off the season.

Jilly Holroyd, Manager of Women’s and Girls’ Rugby looks forward to the forthcoming fixtures “We’re very positive that the squad selected will make an impact in the Six Nations, taking confidence from the victory over Italy back in October.

We are also delighted to have arranged some challenging fixtures for the Development squad, particularly in the shape of an away match against Holland, who are certainly rising in the rankings of women’s rugby”.
