The seven day camp is intended to acclimatise the squad to the warm weather expected in Australia – the current temperature is 27 degrees celsius. A typical day takes in four different sessions and finishes at 6.30pm and then there are evening sessions for video analysis and to go through game plans.

“The purpose early on in the week is to get as much rugby specific training in as possible whilst maintaining the high level of physical work,” said Hansen.

“We are keeping it intense now so that we will be able to give the players a lighter week which includes some time with their families before we leave for the tournament.

“The idea is to get the hard work done so that during the actual Rugby World Cup tournament we can give the players a lighter work load. We want them to be prepared but also fresh for the task.

“We used July and August as heavy physical sessions, September has been about maintaining the physical level reached and increasing skill levels.”
