Barry joined the club as a 19 year-old from Carmarthen Athletic and has since made 118 appearance for Llanelli / Llanelli Scarlets. He has scored 22 tries for the region, none more spectacular than his try at Northampton that clinched a quarter final place in the European Cup two seasons ago. He is also a prodigious goal kicker.
There had been speculation linking Barry to other clubs but he re-signed his contract today saying he was delighted to be staying at Stradey.Â
“I’ve got a lot of respect for the players and coaches here. We’ve got ambitious plans and there’s a real buzz around the changing rooms and I want to continue to be part of it. It was flattering to have other clubs wanting to sign me but now the decision is made it’s a weight off my shoulders. I’m just looking forward to playing against Leinster tomorrow (Saturday 7th Jan).
Nigel Davies added: “Barry’s been very much part of the region from his early development and shares our values and ambition. Over the last couple of years in particular he has improved significantly as a player and is of international standard. We’re all delighted he’s staying. It shows he’s confident in where we’re going.”
