In the 27th minute Mamma Molitika was yellow carded and the Blues were down to 14 men. Despite the numerical difference it was the Blues who got the breakthrough when Nicky Robnson intercepted a pass in his own twenty two and sprinted the length of the field to score under the posts and then convert his own try.

Cardiff Blues soon added to their lead when Nic Macleod chipped ahead for Chris Czekaj to gather and pass to Gethin Jenkins to score with Robinson once again converting. Edinburgh has decided to kick for the corners when awarded penalties in the first half however they had learnt their lesson come the second half and Chris Paterson kicked the home sides first points of the night in the 42 minute.

The referee had only awarded the Blues one penalty in the first half and one in the second half so they knew that to score any points they would have to score tries. It was Edinburgh however who got the next try when Blinside Flanker Allister Hogg scored a try converted by Paterson.

Cardiff Blues soon got another try when Nicky Robinson, who would collect the man of the match award, intercepted a pass in the Edinburgh half, interpassing with Martyn Williams saw the Cardiff Outside Half cross over for his second try that he converted.

Despite the fact that Cardiff back row man Maama Molitika was yellow carded again in the 68th minute and sent off for a second yellow the Blues managed to hold on to their lead. The Blues could have got the fourth try and a bonus point had final passes gone to hand however they will be pleased with an away win against the highest placed Scottish side.
