Charvis was dropped from the Wales team for the final RBS Six Nations match against France in March after an indifferent championship campaign and new Wales coach Gareth Jenkins announces the squad to tour Argentina within a week, with Charvis fighting for his place in the squad.
Charvis’s agent Peter Underhill would not give anything away over the player’s future when contacted by the Western Mail last night.
“We aren’t making any comment,” he said. “It’s a private situation between Colin, myself and Newcastle, so there is no official statement.”
Falcons director of rugby Rob Andrew wouldn’t be drawn on Charvis’s future either. “There’s lots of speculation about lots of things all the time in sport, there are lots of discussion going on at the moment with various people about contracts and futures and new players coming in and some players going out. In due course, everybody will be informed of what’s going on.”
It will not be the first time Charvis has found himself in this position. Two years ago, after the regionalisation of Welsh rugby, Charvis was unable to find a contract anywhere, and ended up playing a season with French Pro D2 side Tarbes.
Finally he joined Newcastle, and has been a regular fixture in the team, taking on the captaincy this season as a reward for his sterling efforts.
