Equality and diversity
The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) Group is fully committed to the principles of equality and will strive to ensure that everyone who wishes to be involved in rugby, whether as employees, members, volunteers or participants:
Equality and Diversity
- Has a genuine and equal opportunity to participate to the full extent of their own ambitions and abilities, without regard to their age, sex, gender identity, disability, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, religion, race, ethnic origin, socioeconomic status or sexual orientation; and
- Can be assured of an environment in which their rights, dignity and individual worth are respected, and in particular, that they are able to enjoy their sport without the threat of intimidation, victimisation, harassment or abuse
The WRU Group recognises rugby as a diverse sport, involvement in which can bring communities together, have health and economic benefits and impact positively on the future of national rugby teams. We promote equality of opportunity in rugby at all levels.
Equality Standard – A Framework for Sport
The WRU Group is committed to ensuring that rugby union in Wales is a sport that can be enjoyed by all. As part of this commitment, the WRU Group is working towards achieving the ‘Equality Standard: A Framework for Sport’ which was launched by the UK sports councils in November 2004 to help address the inequalities that exist within the sports sector. It is a framework to guide sports organisations towards achieving equality.
In February 2015, the WRU Group was awarded the Preliminary Level and now strives to achieve the Intermediate Level.
