The Scarlets centre was a pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Myrddin and moved to Coleg Sir Gar where he represented the college in the U18 National College League.

He played mini, junior and youth rugby for Carmarthen Quins RFC and also represented Carmarthen Schools U15s. He was a prominent figure in the College League and was a standout performer for the Scarlets U18s in the Regional Age Grade competition.

Eddie represented Wales U18s against Scotland pre-lockdown and played for Wales U20 in the 2021 Six Nations at Cardiff Arms Park.

James enjoyed an outstanding 2023/24 campaign for the Scarlets and was presented with the Coaches’ Breakthrough Player of the Season award at their end-of-season dinner.

James was one of four Wales debutants against the Springboks when the two sides met at Twickenham on June 22, 2024.
