Both sides kicked-off their Guinness PRO12 campaign in impressive fashion.Rhys Patchell scored 21 points to inspire the Blues to a bonus point victory against Zebre in the sweltering heat of Parma – whilst a last minute Stuart Hogg penalty downed Leinster 22-20 in a repeat of last season’s final.
Former New Zealand hooker Hammett thought the tight result flattered the Leinstermen but reckons the Blues’ new found philosophy will steer them to success in his first home match in-charge.
He said: “Its important that we make our home base a really hard place for teams to get wins. We get our first chance against Glasgow this weekend, who I thought were exceptional last weekend, they should have won their match against Leinster by a lot more.
“It was incredible to see that they were down by a point going into the final minutes. But we’re very excited about playing at home. It will be fast and open on the 3G pitch and we’re looking forward to it.”
Glasgow duo Alex Dunbar and Peter Horne both limped off injured in their bruising victory over Leinster but are fit to return against the Blues. Former Wales sevens captain Adam Thomas will also make his bow tomorrow night, he comes into the side at full-back in-place of Owen Jenkins, with Dan fish moving to the wing.
The Cardiff side have a point to prove having lost to Glasgow in their last five league meetings, but face a tough task against a side who’s only defeat in their last 11 league games came in last season’s final.
“Results are important as they are what you get judged on, but the fans will able to see whether our hearts and minds are really in the game whether we win or lose,” said Hammett.
“That’s what our leaders are demanding, we’re keen to go out there on Sunday and leave everything out on the Arms Park so we leave nothing to chance. I thought Glasgow were superb against Leinster on the weekend. It’s going to be a challenge and we have to make sure our intensity is really high.”
