Danny Wilson’s side have had an excellent start to the tournament with a narrow home win over Ireland followed by an impressive performance against France at the Stade Marcel Michelin.
Wales have made five changes for tomorrow night’s clash with the Italians but Hughes says the squad are aiming to repeat the performances of their first two games.
“It was a great win out in France and hopefully we can produce the goods again against Italy,” said the Swansea born lock.
“Not many Welsh teams have gone out to France and won so we’ll take great confidence from that moving forward into this campaign.”
Hughes is an unchanged member of the pack for tomorrow night’s game but there are a number of fresh faces. Gareth Thomas and Ethan Lewis both get starts in the front row while there are three changes in the backs.
Centre Thomas Pascoe, wing Aaron Warren and full back Jordan Williams all come into the starting XV against an Italian side who have lost both of their two games so far.
But despite his side’s unbeaten run, Hughes is refusing to get carried away.
“All of the boys are very grounded and are taking each game as it comes,” he added.
“It will be a really tough game in Italy so hopefully we’ll get another win on Friday.”
“All the boys have got a good feel for each other in training. We had a big week before the Ireland game which definitely helped and we’re further forward than where we were last year.”
With the likes of captain Ellis Jenkins, centre Cory Allen and Hughes all possessing previous Six Nations experience, Wales can call on a number of players familiar with international rugby.
“I went to the World Cup last year so perhaps I am seen as a senior player,” said Hughes.
“I just try and lead by example on the pitch and in training and help the younger boys along.
“We’re more familiar with each other and there’s a good feeling in the camp. Everybody is raring to go and play out there on Friday night now.”
