The veteran Springboks lock will break the South African cap record held by John Smit when he makes his 112th appearance for the Boks.
At 37 years of age you would forgive him for wanting to slow down but he wants an even more complete performance than last week after guiding his side to a comfortable 38-16 victory over Alun-Wyn Jones’ men in Duruban.
“It’s important for us that we are even better than last week,” he said. “It was a great start for us, but there were still a lot of mistakes in there.
“In the first half we were spot on. We only conceded one penalty and we were in their half the whole time and could play.
“In the second half we made too many mistakes that gave away momentum. We gave them the ball and had to defend. Maybe we were forcing things in trying to get more tries.
“We weren’t happy with the second half. If we can cut out those errors and produce an 80 minute clinical performance we will be happy.
“If we want to play a perfect game we are still quite a way from that. The perfect game is a very tough thing but it’s always nice chasing that.
“We want to do everything 100 per cent right. We are chasing our own standards all the time.
“We can’t do anything about how Wales are going to come back, it’s all about us, we need to be focused. The game starts at 0-0 again, we have to build an innings.
“We have worked hard on getting our things right. Training has been good all week. Hopefully we can go out and play a great game.”
Wales may be firm underdogs for the clash but Wales assistant coach Rob Howley believes his side can hit back after last week’s defeat. Wales make two changes to the starting line-up with prop Samson Lee coming in for Adam Jones with Josh Turnbull getting his chance on the side of the scrum.
“This is the last game, you have your summer holidays and then it is still nearly five months until we are back together for the autumn.
“It is a long time, and you do not want to be thinking ‘what if we had prepared or done something different?
“But this is the challenge for us. We need to show we are a better team than we showed last week. We need to be more competitive in all areas because they were vastly superior in the majority of areas.
“We have to be more clinical at key moments and look to put them under pressure in a way we were not able to last week.”
