Aironi stuck close in a dour first-half in which Dan Parks managed to land four penalties to give the home side a 12 point cushion, but the Blues sprung into life after the break.
Visiting centre Sinoti Sinoti picked up a deserved yellow card for a reckless shoulder charge into Gavin Evans’ head two minutes after the re-start and a minute later Casey Laulala crossed for the first try.
That try served as a catalyst for the Blues and Dafydd Hewitt celebrated his 50th appearance for the region with a brilliant solo burst that carried him past five would-be tacklers and across at the posts fro try number two.
The next two tries came in the space of three minutes as Tom James and then replacement hooker Marc Breeze both got on the score sheet. Dan Parks converted the first, taking his match tally to 16 points, and then his replacement, Ceri Sweeney, added the extras to Breeze’s close range drive to complete the scoring.
Coming on the back of an impressive home win in the Heineken Cup over London Irish this follow up league triumph will have pleased the coaches, especially as they were 14 men down through international calls and injuries.
There was also good news from the stands during the game as new signing Gavin Henson confirmed on S4C that he will start full training on Monday with a view to possibly playing with two weeks. And his main playing target? To wear the No 10 jersey!
