Neil Jenkins equalled his own points record scored in an individual match as Wales swept away the Italian challenge at the Cardiff Arms Park in October 1995.
The match was played as part of a preliminary round of the 1995 Rugby World Cup, with Wales having already defeated the third country, Romania, in this Euro-seeding group.
Having scored only one try in Bucharest, Wales did no better in this match as centre Nigel Davies went over. Yet the other twenty-four points came from the boot of Neil Jenkins, who dropped a goal and placed seven penalties through the uprights.
Jenkins equalled his previous Welsh best of twenty-four points scored against Canada two years earlier. In this match Jenkins became the highest ever Welsh points scorer when he passed Paul Thorburn’s total of 304 scored in twenty-nine tests; nine less than Thorburn played.
