The home side gave a good account of themselves against last season’s Aviva Premiership finalists but two second half tries from Chiefs wing Olly Woodburn secured the victory for the visitors.
Dragons head coach Kingsley Jones will be encouraged with his side’s display once again as they prepare for their GUINNESS PRO12 opener away at Ulster next Friday night.
Just as they did against Cardiff Blues at Rodney Parade, the Dragons were out of the traps quickly with a try inside 90 seconds when Pat Howard collected a cross-field kick to go over in the corner.
Nick Macleod added the extras and Carl Meyer then kicked a long-range penalty but the visitors responded with their opening try from wing Woodburn.
A second Dragons penalty gave the home side an eight-point lead before the Chiefs hit back with their second score of the evening when hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie finished off a good period of pressure from the visitors.
Henry Slade added a penalty on the stroke of half-time to level the scores at the break.
It took Exeter just two minutes to grab their third try after the interval with summer signing Ollie Devoto finishing off a swift move.
Macleod kept the Dragons in touch with his second penalty but Woodburn wasn’t finished for the evening.
He got his second of the night when he intercepted Macleod’s loose pass and the flying winger was able to race home from 60m.
Woodburn secured a personal hat-trick of tries in the dying moments when he finished off another good Exeter move that started with a burst through the middle from lock Damien Welch.
