The Men of Gwent struck the first blow on Saturday with a 23-17 triumph at the BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park, and welcome Mark Hammett’s side to Rodney Parade on Thursday.
But Gough knows only half the job is done ahead of the second leg of the East Wales double-header on New Years day.
“The boys are not getting ahead of themselves,” said Gough. “As good as it is to win and change the record at a place you are usually daunted to go, it’s only half a job and we’ve got to make Rodney Parade a fortress.
“We haven’t given our fans a massive amount to cheer this season. We want the consistency, we’ve had a lot of injuries but players are coming back and we are getting a flow of games where we are showing what we can do.”
The Dragons have won four games in-a-row in December and are just two points behind the Blues in the PRO12 standings. A home victory would see them leapfrog the Cardiff side into ninth place in the league. And Gough wants to hear Rodney Parade roar them onto another derby day triumph.
He said: “The fans have stuck by us and they can make a difference. It’s up to us to produce performances to keep them on our side. We need to back up Boxing Day or a great win is worthless. The boys played superbly in the first half and then defended for their lives when Cardiff had a bit more of the game.”
