Newport Gwent Dragons held European champions London Wasps to a 3-3 all draw in their opening EDF Energy Cup match on Saturday.

In a hard-fought match the only points came from a penalty for each team. Ceri Sweeney was responsible for the Dragons’ score while youngester Danny Cipriani got the points for Wasps.

Dragons Coach Paul Turner said. “We made a lot of errors in the game, but you cannot fault the commitment of the players.

“It was a great effort by both sides in difficult conditions. We vowed before the game to beat the European champions and we have almost done that.”
