Replacement out-side half Sam Davies was the hero on the night as his penalty in the final minutes stole the four points in Parma.
Giulio Bisegni’s early breakaway gave the Italian’s a head-start and Gonzalo Garcia’s boot kept the Ospreys at bay until the final ten minutes. But the 20-year-old landed the decisive penalty to maintain their unbeaten run at the Stadio XXV Aprile.
The Ospreys flying start hit a speed bump in Parma after just five minutes. Dan Biggar came off worse in an aerial duel with stand-in full-back David Odiete and the hosts exploited the space left by the Wales pivot. Garcia raced downfield before linking with Bisegni, who rounded Dan Evans to claim the game’s first try.
Biggar made way for Davies following his fifth minute collision and the replacement got the visitors back in touch with a penalty after Samuela Vunisa handled Martin Roberts at a ruck. Luciano Orquera missed two early attempts at goal which meant Garcia took over kicking duties, and the centre knocked over a simple penalty to restore the five-point gap. Davies reigned in their advantage once more to go in 8-6 at half-time.
The kickers traded penalties once more before Giulio Toniolatti was sent to the sin-bin for intervening on the floor during an Ospreys onslaught that looked certain to end in a seven-point score. The Liberty Stadium side finally hit the front through 2013 IRB junior world player of the year Davies with seven minutes remaining.
The 20-year-old fly-half held his nerve to land a penalty from the touchline to maintain their 100 percent start.
