In a game which ebbed and flowed, Ryan Bevington’s stunning effort 13 minutes from time while the Ospreys were down to 14 men secured a 12-16 win.Â
Despite missing 23 players through injury and international duty, Steve Tandy’s side secured a dramatic victory to boost their league chances.
Ulster took the lead inside four minutes through Ruan Pienaar before Matthew Morgan’s penalty levelled things up.
After Morgan’s drop goal attempt went wide, Ulster struck straight back with Pienaar’s second penalty on 14 minutes.
Despite trailing as the first half reached the midway point, the Ospreys got back on level terms in the 22nd minute when Morgan popped over his second penalty.
The possession and territory stats were firmly in the Ospreys favour though Pienaar’s third penalty saw them somewhat undeservedly lead at the break.
Tandy’s young side had impressed in the first period and were further boosted by the welcome sight of Welsh international Alun Wyn Jones entering the action just short of the 50 minute mark.
Morgan soon levelled things up with his third penalty and although they were on the end of sustained visiting pressure, the Ospreys were dealt a further blow when Morgan Allen was shown a yellow card for not releasing in the tackle. Stuart Olding slotted over the resulting penalty to put Ulster ahead once again.
But the Ravenhill crowd was soon shocked as Bevington won the game.
Jonathan Spratt’s break saw him offload to Kahn Fotuali’i on his outside. He who in turn found Bevington who ran in from a barely believable 40 metres.
Morgan’s conversion gave his side a four point lead, one they held on to for a dramatic victory.Â
