An interception try by Scottish wing Sean Lamont and a second by his fellow wing Viliami Iongi gave the Welsh region a 10 point lead and they still had their noses infront at half-time, 10-8.
But a combination of two tries from Irish back row star Stephen Ferris and the boot of Ian Humphreys launched a major Ulster revival that inflicted the first defeat in nine games on the Scarlets.
Having conceded a try to Lamont in the first move of the game, and then seen Iongi double the visitors’ lead, Ulster notched 24 unanswered points as they got their domestic campaign back on track.
Ferris was at the heart of the recovery, crossing for a try in each half, and Humphreys converted one and landed four penalties. The Scarlets grabbed a bonus point when No 8 Kieran Murphy crossed from close range late on and Stephen Jones added the conversion.
