Man of the match Jordan Williams scored twice in a hard fought victory to kill any Edinburgh hopes of post season action.
Alan Solomons’ men will feel hard done by to lose a game after establishing an early 12 point lead.Â
The Scarlets, who were nine points adrift of fifth placed Ulster heading into the fixture, extended their league lead over fellow Welsh hopefuls Newport Gwent Dragons to eight points. The result condemned Edinburgh to their 18th defeat in 19 visits to Wales.
The home side endured a nightmare start. Both Aled Thomas and Williams had kicks charged down before Nick De Luca squeezed in at the corner for his third try of the campaign.
Thomas continued with kicking duties and narrowed the gap to four points with two quick penalties as Simon Easterby’s men looked to reply to Edinburgh’s electric start.
Gareth Davies broke clean through on the half hour mark before Williams rounded the Edinburgh scramble defence to score at the corner five minutes from half time.
A Bezuidenhout penalty levelled the scores two minutes from half time before Williams claimed his second score. The former Wales Under 20 full back skipped past two defenders and dotted down to take the half time score to 18-13.
De Luca and Benzuidehout left the action at half time for the Scotsmen to be replaced by Sam Beard and Harry Leonard respectively. Leonard made an instant impact, sending a long scoring pass to wing Tom Brown to tie the scores once more. Scarlets debutant Olly Barkley then made an instant impact. Centre partner Adam Warren latched onto Barkley’s pop pass to crash over for the home sides third score.
The home side had to endure a nervy last few minutes as Edinburgh sent wave after wave of attack towards there line. But they held on to claim a vital win that keeps their hopes of silverware alive. Â
