The opening fifteen minutes were dominated by visitors, the forwards hitting hard through the middle and the backs creating room with every touch of the ball.
Matthew Morgan kicked his side ahead with a penalty after Guglielmo Palzzani had missed with his first attempt for the Italians.
Wales kept the ball well out wide and Owen Williams brushed the tacklers off him as he powered down the right flank for the opening try.
Morgan converted and was lining up his second conversion just a few minutes later as he danced his way to the line as Wales took a 17 v 0 lead.
Italy threatened through their forwards but aggressive defence around the fringes drove the hosts back and once again put Wales on the front foot.
Wales were reduced to 14-men for the rest of the game when prop Will Taylor was sent from the field for a headbutt and Italy got their first points on the board moments later, Palzzani successful with his third kick at goal.
Even with a man down Wales got their third try a few minutes later, Scarlets prop Rob Evans powering his way over from short range.
Just as the half-time whistle approached Leonardo Sarto crossed for Italy’s first try to the delight of the home fans, which was converted by Palzzani.
Italy lost fly-half Luca Morisi to the sin-bin for a professional foul at the ruck and his opposite number capitalised immediately with another three points.
Williams then grabbed his second try of the evening, combing power and finesse as he handed off the covering defence and then glided up the touchline to score.
Hooker Kirby Myhill was shown the slightest gap and exposed it fully, sprinting 30 metres to score his side’s fifth try of the evening.
Replacement Joseff Griffin rounded off the scoring with a try on the final whistle after Italy’s Amar Kudin had grabbed his side a second try.
