Promising Neath fly-half Matthew Jones was the key player for Chris Davey’s side and his long-range goal-kicking kept their noses in front during a tense second half after France U21 had led 11-6 at the break.

No.8 Gavin Quinnell, younger brother of messrs Scott and Craig, bulldozed his way over the try-line to give Wales U21 a one-point lead after seventy minutes, and Cardiff winger Chris Czekaj scored in the final play to secure the victory.

The victory sets up Wales U21 with the opportunity to avenge their defeat to England U21 in the previous match of the tournament and if Matthew Nuthall starts at fullback he will be making a record 22nd appearance for the age grade team.
