The home side hit back after the previous weekend’s drubbing in Dublin at the hands of the champions, Leinster, and ran in a magnificent seven tries in a game that also saw them hold the opposition to zero points.
And that was the aspect of the win that really pleased new head coach Wayne Pivac . He was far more impressed by the fact his side managed to keep their line intact for the first time since 20 April, 2013 – some 27 matches ago.
Â
Pivac had been shell-shocked at seeing his side concede six tries the previous weekend, making it 10 tries conceded in his side’s two opening fixtures. .
Â
Treviso coughed up the ball in trying to break out from their 22 in the first play of the game they conceded the opening try after a mere 87 seconds to Emyr Phillips. The Wales hooker raced 20 metres to score to make it a double celebration on the day he made his 100th appearance for the club.
Â
Scrum half Gareth Davies then took centre stage as he crossed twice in a first-half that saw the Scarlets race into a 19-0 lead. The first came from a front of the line-out peel by Aaron Shingler and the second was a kick and chase from the edge of the 22 after the Treviso pack had been crushed at a scrum.
Â
There was no let up at the start of the second half and no sooner had No 8 Matt Luamanu been sent to the sin-bin than the Scarlets went into overdrive. Three more tries flowed in a brilliant six minute burst with Williams crossing twice and Johan Snyman crashing over for the third.
Â
That stretched the advantage to 38-0 and Gareth Owen rounded off the scoring with his try after 63 minutes.
