Paul Turner’s outfit battled bravely and were level 3-3 at the break but the defending Magners League champions proved unstoppable in the second period with Munster’s southern hemisphere imports playing major roles.
Williams was unstoppable near the try line and put his injury woes behind him while fellow Kiwi Doug Howlett burst clear with a dummy and sped to the line untouched while Springbok centre Jean de Villiers was as solid as rock in the heart of defence.
James Arlidge’s penalty just before half-time proved to be the Dragons only points of the game. Despite the final score-line the Dragons didn’t disgrace themselves. They put up a spirited first forty minutes with Joe Bearman standing out with a couple of surging runs.
Returning Lions fly half Ronan O’Gara missed his first shot at goal but the deadlock was finally broken five minutes before half-time when he split the posts after a scrum infringement by Nigel Hall.
Arlidge quickly replied with a penalty of his own and was narrowly wide with an injury-time drop-goal attempt following a terrific midfield break by Bearman.
Williams crashed over off the base of an advancing five-metre scrum to register Munster’s first try, five minutes into the second half.
This just spurred the home side on more. Williams powered his way over from close range with a posse of defenders falling off him. The men in red secured their bonus point eight minutes from the end when Williams took a quick tap and bulldozed his way over again.
