Alan Davies was Wales’s National Coach between 1991 and 1995. Born in Ynysybwl, Davies moved to Nottingham when he was ten years old. He graduated from Loughborough College and played for several English rugby clubs before becoming a coach. He coached Nottingham RFC, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire.
Davies coached the English B side between 1986 and 1988 and assisted Geoff Cooke in the English Tour of Australia and Fiji in 1988.
Davies was appointed as Wales emergency caretaker coach for the 1991 Rugby World Cup following the resignation of Ron Waldron but remained in charge until 1995. Davies is now the Patron of Rhigos RFC.
