Cwmtwrch scrum half Daniel Clive Thomas Rowlands gained fourteen caps for Wales, all of which were undertaken as the Welsh captain. He made his debut in the 1963 loss to England in the Five Nations Championship. He led Wales to a Triple Crown in 1965.

Domestically Rowlands represented Abercrave, Pontypool RFC (captain in the 1962-1963 season), Llanelli RFC and Swansea RFC, captaining the club in the 1967-1968 season.

Following his retirement Rowlands became Wales Coach between 1968 and 1974, the youngest person to hold the position at the time. He was the Wales team manager for the inaugural 1987 Rugby World Cup and was the manager of the British Lions tour to Australia in 1989. Rowlands became the President of the Welsh Rugby Union in 1989.
