The former flanker was capped once for Wales on a try-scoring debut against USA in 2005. He was also part of the Wales sevens team who won the Melrose Cup at the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament in Dubai.

Having formerly been an assistant coach for Wales Women (forwards), Richie took up a role as assistant coach to Gareth Williams for the Wales Sevens squad on his return from the Rio Olympic Games where he was assistant coach to Simon Middleton for the women’s GB sevens team.

Pugh spent just over two years as an assistant coach with Ospreys before returning to the WRU in November 2021 as head of sevens. He joined the Wales U20 men’s coaching team prior to the 2023 U20 World Championship.
