Disability 6 Nations – Overview
Originally an incredible stand-alone event running in Ystrad Mynach, we now have a Disability 6 Nations event in every region, providing a fun filled day of rugby activities for children with a wide range of disabilities.
Taking place during the traditional 6 Nations window (Feb-Mar) each year, special schools and schools with SEN/ALN units attend their regional events to make new friends and play in a safe, inclusive environment. All activities are adapted where necessary and non-contact.
Do you want your school/unit to attend the next Disability 6 Nations in your region?
If so please get in touch with your local regional inclusion lead as listed under WRU contacts.
Wales Deaf Community Events – Overview
Running towards the end of each year the Welsh Rugby Union with their regional rugby partners facilitate the Wales Deaf Community Events for children with hearing impairments in each region of Wales, providing:
- A fun packed day of rugby activities
- Regional Stadium Tours
- Regional and Wales Deaf player meet
- BSL support
But don’t take our word for it, check out some of the pictures from previous events.
If your child or your school would like to attend a future event, please get in touch with your local regional inclusion lead as listed under WRU contacts.
Urdd SEN & wheelchair rugby events – Overview
Working in partnership with the Urdd, we hold two WRU 7s SEN Schools festivals each year. One at Pontcanna fields in Cardiff and one at Rydal Penrhos school in Colwyn Bay. Each year we welcome Special schools or SEN/ALN Unit teams from across Wales to enjoy friendly games of ‘atomic touch rugby’. Games are played on mini pitches. The festival finale is an awards ceremony taking place in the presentation area.
Throughout the day Urdd and WRU staff and coaches will be on hand to coach teams and referee games. They will also be able to share details of local WRU Inclusive Community Clubs with anyone that may be interested, these are suitable for 6-16 year olds with any range of disability.
In addition we run wheelchair rugby engagement sessions at Sport Wales National centre, enabling any school that registers the opportunity to try out another fun and inclusive sport.
