Iestyn grew up in Cwmllynfell in the Swansea Valleys, before attending Ystalyfera Comprehensive. As well as playing for his school he played for local club Ystradgynlais.
He has overcome a number of serious injuries which has meant he has only played a handful of games over the past three seasons prior to making his Wales U20 debut against England at Doncaster in 2022.
