Westwood began his formative years at Blackwood RFC. He was added to the Dragons academy in 2021 after impressing in age-grade rugby.
He is the grandson of Newbridge legend Keith and son of Jonathan, who played for Newport, Neath, Cardiff, Ebbw Vale, Aberavon and Cross Keys in the 1990s.
Joe has played for Ebbw Vale in the Indigo Premiership, but this season featured for Newport in the Indigo Prem.
He has halted his studies at Cardiff Met to concentrate on his rugby career.
