Wales hooker Matthew Rees led the way with a brace of tries against a hapless Borders side and there was a third from the home hooking spot when Wales U20 cap Ken Owens rounded off the night’s work with a try of his own.

Dafydd James was the back line catalyst as he notched another try a week after spearheading the march into the Heineken Cup semi-finals with a vital try against Munster. He was voted man of the match.

Stephen Jones helped himself to 13 points with a try and four conversions and it was another useful workout for the Welsh region before their European semi-final shoot-out with Leicester Tigers at the Walkers Stadium in two weeks time.

This was a tenth successive loss by the Borders against the Scarlets and their only consolation was a try near the end from industrious lock John Daziel.

Scorers:
Scarlets: Tries: M Rees (2), S MacLeod, D James, S Jones, M Jones, B Davies, L Davies, K Owens. Cons: S Jones (4)
Borders: Try: J Daziel. Pens: S Jones (2)
