The Welsh women’s brains trust will be unable to run the rule over a few new combinations with this weekend’s scheduled clash against the Nomads falling victim to the adverse weather conditions.

Head coach Jason Lewis introduced a number of fresh faces to the squad which destroyed Sweden in November and was keen to give the likes of Caryl James and Becky Newton another chance before the opening Six Nations encounter against arch rivals England but Saturday’s match at the Bromley Sports Ground in Eastgate is the latest sporting event to be called off due to the freezing weather conditions plaguing the country.

The Nomads are the female version of the Barbarians and have been in existence since 1993. In that time the outfit, originally called the Premiership All Stars, have come to represent current and ex-internationals as well as those on the brink of playing for their country.

The Nomads would have given Lewis’s side an invaluable hit-out as they included ex-England captain Sue Day as well as her ex-England team mates Shelley Rae and Claire Frost. The Nomads also included representatives from Ireland, Australia, Canada and Scotland and haven’t lost a game since 2007.
