Last season’s winners have had a disappointing start to the campaign and currently sit second bottom with just a losing bonus point the reward for their efforts so far this season.
Gwent went into their opening game against Coleg Morgannwg full of confidence after last year’s triumph but they slipped to a comprehensive 37-15 defeat in the game at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel.
After their next game against Coleg Sir Benfro was postponed, Gwent were narrowly beaten 9-7 away to Bridgend College.
They take on Sir Gar tomorrow, the team they beat in the final to win last year’s competition knowing the opposition will be out for revenge.
“Last year we played Coleg Sir Gar in the final, we played well and were fortunate enough to win the game,” said Coleg Gwent team manager Steven Llewellyn.
“This year we started near enough from scratch with our squad, we’ve got a young team and it will be a two year programme as it sometimes is with sixth forms.”
Despite having a young squad, Llewellyn believes they can do better and he is looking for an improved performance tomorrow.
“Sir Gar will be out for revenge and they always produce a top quality side who are there or there abouts,” he added.
“It’s a tough ask for us as we’ve had a difficult start to the season. Performances haven’t been great but we’re looking to turn it around starting tomorrow.”
In the other fixtures taking place on Wednesday, Llandovery College will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run in their home clash with Bridgend College while Gower College travel to Coleg Morgannwg.
Coleg Sir Benfro will be looking for their first points of their campaign when they take on Neath Port Talbot College.
