Tipuric vows to improve

Justin Tipuric has vowed to become an even better player in the new season.

The Ospreys ace enjoyed a stellar campaign with both his region and Wales and was rewarded with a place on the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia.

It was no surprise that the Trebanos product topped the turnover charts Down Under and he played an impressive cameo in the decisive third Test victory.

But Tipuric is in no mood to rest on his laurels and insists he will continue to improve his game at the Liberty Stadium.

“If you stand still and think you’ve cracked it, that’s when you’ll hit problems,” said Tipuric.

“Other people will overtake you.

“You have to keep improving, keep trying to add to your rugby. The game is changing all the time, with new rules and players trying different things, and players and teams have to keep trying to get better.

“I’ll definitely be tweaking my game.”

And Tipuric is convince he is already a better player following his experiences on the victorious Lions tour.

The flanker was a member of the famous tourists’ back-row which received heavy criticism following the loss to Australia but he was thrilled to bounce back in the Test series.

“It was nice to get on,” he said.

“It’s the pinnacle of any player’s career to figure in a Test for the Lions, so for me to achieve it was a great way to cap off my tour.

“You learn a tremendous amount being away.

“In some ways it’s mentally tough because you are thousands of miles from home and with a lot of new people. But once you settle you end up making friends who will stay your mates for the rest of your life.

“All the way up to the Brumbies game I loved every minute of it, but when you lose it’s a horrible feeling. To bounce back then is one of the toughest things to do. If you can turn things around, it’s a great feeling, something you can take a lot out of as a player.

“Of course it would be great to go on another Lions tour.

“I’d like to take that extra step and start a Test, which is the biggest thing for a rugby player to do. But I enjoyed this summer’s trip and that’s the main thing. If I’m enjoying my rugby I know I’m doing well.”
