The funding will go towards club maintenance and volunteer recruitment events being held across the nation on the weekend of 13th and 14th August.
The top five applicants, yet to be named, will each receive £1,000 to support a larger development project. They will also be in with a chance of winning the services and expertise of former Wales international and TV pundit, Tom Shanklin for a year. This is a fantastic opportunity for one club to receive the Welsh hero’s business acumen and support to make a long-term difference. These winners will be announced next week.
All of the winning clubs provided detailed plans of how they will encourage volunteers and the community to get involved in their NatWest RugbyForce weekend.
Rugby clubs from Abergavenny to Pwllheli and from Burry Port to Bryncethin won the cash prizes after submitting plans for events designed to reward committed volunteers as well as attract new ones.
Caldicot will use the money to help repair the wooden eaves of their club house and they will host a recruitment day for mini and junior players as well as senior, youth, veteran and girls teams on Saturday 13th August.
Old Penarthians will host a ‘thank you’ evening for all their volunteers and their partners on the same day and plan to coincide the festivities with a pre-season friendly at the club.
Cwmavon have come up with the idea of a mixed-age touch festival in which they hope to include parents, children and grandparents in the same teams and they are looking to use their winnings to help pay for new floodlights.
In Nantgaredig, on Sunday 14th August, the club will host their Annual Merlin Bike Ride run, where up to 1,000 riders take part – the day will also include rugby taster sessions and a bouncy castle for children and they will put their money towards a defibrillator for the clubhouse.
