Hansen Stays Cool

Wales coach Steve Hansen is not fazed by the visit of the All Blacks- and will tell his players that the game is there to be won.

‘It will be a big challenge, but if we play to the best of our ability then New Zealand will be in for a tough time,’ said Hansen.

Hansen says he has been given some advice from a man in the know – fellow Kiwi and Wales coach Graham Henry.

‘I’ve spoken to Graham recently,’ said Hansen. ‘He’s been giving me some advice and a few words of wisdom on how to beat the All Blacks and it has been much appreciated.’

Henry has flown back especially to watch the game between Wales and New Zealand on Saturday, and the ‘Great Redeemer’ has finally got a smile back on his face.

‘Graham was disappointed with the way things ended with Wales,’ Hansen said. ‘But he’s bounced back and is happy again and is doing really well for himself.’

Hansen’s side have endured mixed fortunes during their three Autumn games so far and Saturday’s match will be the toughest.

‘Despite what anyone says they are a good side,’ said Hansen.

‘They’ve brought over a good blend of experience and youth and the new players are very keen. New Zealand will see this game as a must-win affair and that will make our task all that bit harder.’

But he admits that the Test against New Zealand on Saturday will be a ‘surreal experience.’

‘There will be a few butterflies floating around in my stomach,’ the Kiwi admitted. ‘But I’ve got to stay calm and composed for the sake of my players.

“I’m determined to enjoy the day,” he added.

Hansen warned his side that there can be no repeat of their performance against Canada.

He said: ‘It wasn’t a great performance, but the good thing is that the players recognise that.

‘After doing so well against Fiji there was always a danger that the standards would drop.

‘And with such a young side it often happens. We’ve got to be more mentally prepared on Saturday otherwise we’ll be in for a torrid afternoon.’
