Welsh Rugby Union Statement

The former Chairman and the Secretary of Penygraig RFC have been charged with doping offences under the WRU’s anti-doping regulations arising out of the alleged refusal of the Penygraig RFC 22-player match day squad to submit to doping control tests at the Silver Ball final on 14 May, 2003.

The cases of the two officials, and the Penygraig 22-man match day squad, will go before a preliminary hearing of the special Disciplinary Panel in Cardiff this evening (Wednesday, 9 July, 2003) at 6.30 pm.

The full hearing before the special Disciplinary Panel, which will consist of Patrick Harrington QC (Chairman), Professor John Williams of the Institute of Nephrology, University of Wales College of Medicine, and Terry Vaux, a solicitor who is also a member of the WRU Board, will be held on 28 and 29 July, 2003.
