The victory was one of only two away wins in the League at the weekend, with backrower Charvis scoring in the third minute.

Newspaper Midi Olympique, under the headline ‘The new Tarbes have arrived!’ called it a ‘precious victory’ as Tarbes battle financial problems and mixed form to make their presence felt in the French Second Division.

‘I’m not completely settled in yet,’ Charvis admitted after the game.

‘It’s difficult for someone like me who speaks only a little bit of French, but I’m getting better and there are four English speakers in the team.

‘This weekend, I found the players more relaxed than in my first game against La Rochelle. We managed to score 15 points quickly which put us in the box seat.’

Tarbes coach Michel Conques added: ‘We wanted this result – it reassures us and puts us back on course.
‘Charvis brings a lot to this team – he takes the ball forward and gets us over the gain line.’
