Go.Compare has signed a major, multi-year shirt sponsorship deal with the Welsh Rugby Union, which will see its logo feature on the back of all of the WRU’s senior international and pathway teams in both the men’s and the women’s game with immediate effect.
The comparison site becomes the first company in history to take on a back-of-shirt sponsor for the senior Wales men’s or women’s teams in a new seven-figure deal.
Founded in Newport in 2006, Go.Compare will debut its logo on Wales jerseys when the senior men’s side take on England next month (August 5th).
The same kit design will be worn by Wales Women when they head to the new WXV tournament in New Zealand in the autumn and will cascade through the WRU’s pathway teams. The new look kit will be revealed, and available to purchase, on 27th July, with the iconic Go.Compare logo on the back of the famous red jersey.
Picture shows a mock-up of how the new kit might look, a newly design kit will be revealed later this month.
“This is a hugely significant deal for Welsh rugby and we are grateful to Go.Compare for its most welcome support for our international and pathway teams,” said WRU interim CEO Nigel Walker.
“Go.Compare has not just come to the table as a corporate sponsor, they are also investing marketing resource which will positively influence the professional game in Wales and directly encourage sustainability and success across our teams.
“Our new partnership will pay immediate dividends to Welsh rugby and we are greatly encouraged that a Welsh-born company which shares our passion for the game has made such a significant commitment to the WRU.”
Plans for how the new kit will look will remain top secret until the reveal date but, one thing we do know is that it will be defenders trailing in the wake of Welsh attackers who will get the very best view.
Lee Griffin, founder and CEO at Go.Compare, said: “Go.Compare has Wales in its DNA, so for us to be able to support Welsh rugby and its range of community initiatives is a huge privilege and we’re really proud to be involved.
“We’re also thrilled to be the first ever back-of-shirt sponsor for the senior teams – which aligns really well with Go.Compare and its history of doing things slightly differently.
“We have always looked at new ways to back our customers’ financial decisions and now we’re “backing” Welsh rugby, a sport that well and truly runs through the heart of Wales.”
